Here's how you can open an account with us.
Opening an account with us
We’ll ask you for some information so we can process your application.
- If you’re applying online and you’re new to Banqanu you’ll need to be resident in Cayman Islands; or
- If you’re already a customer of ours and you’d like to open a new current account you’ll need to live in the Cayman Islands.
We’ll try to confirm your identity and address electronically, but if we can’t we’ll ask you for proof of your identity and current permanent address. This may also be required if you are a parent or guardian of a child under the age of 16 opening an account.
You’ll need to be able to give us copies of your most recent payslips, or if you’re self-employed, copies of your certified or audited accounts for the last three years.
If you’re switching your account from another bank we’ll ask you for the last two months’ statements for your main account.
Once we’ve processed your application we’ll give you a customer agreement to review, sign and return to us.
Good to know
With eBanking you can:
- Manage your accounts, check balances and pay bills
- Transfer money and make payments
- View or delete direct debits and set up and amend standing orders
- Apply for overdrafts, new accounts and personal loans
- Order foreign currency
Once you’re set up for eBanking, you can download the Banqanu Group Mobile App to manage your money 24 hours a day, no matter where you are.
Need to know
- We’ll never ask you to reveal PINs, credit or debit card numbers over the phone, through email or by text
- We recommend you download and install Webroot Secure Anywhere® free if you use eBanking
- These services may be temporarily unavailable when we are carrying out routine maintenance.
What happens next?
We’ll issue you with an Electronic Signature to log on to eBanking and the Banqanu Mobile Bank app. Your Electronic Signature is made up of 3 parts:
- An 8 digit User ID
- A 4 digit passcode (we’ll issue you with a temporary passcode which must be changed the first time you log on)
- A way to generate a one-time passcode using our Banqanu ID app or eSafeID physical fob.
If you have a smartphone, find out more about our security app. Banqanu ID, and download the app to enable you to log on to eBanking for the first time, once you have received the remainder of your electronic signature.
If you do not have a smartphone, we can offer you an eSafeID device instead and we’d recommend ordering your eSafeID device as soon as you have registered for eBanking. The eSafeID is a physical fob which generates a six digit code enabling you to log on securely online.

The Current Account Switch Service
makes switching your current account between your old bank or building society and Banqanu Group simple and stress-free. We’ll transfer all direct debits, standing orders, saved payee details and regular payments.
This is a free and simple process, guaranteed to be completed within seven business days.
If your new bank or building society agrees, bank accounts that include an overdraft can switch using the Current Account Switch Service. And if you’d like to have an overdraft with your new bank account, speak to your new bank or building society before starting your switch. Your new bank or building society will be able to advise if you’re eligible for an overdraft, dependent on their lending criteria and your credit status.

Manual switching process
Even if your current bank or building society does not use the Current Account Switch Service you can still switch your account to Banqanu Group.
Please note that the Current Account Switch Service Guarantee does not apply to the manual switching process. (restrictions apply).
